Expand description

Experimental. Lets the producer write this data source through the tracing v2 ring buffer.

  • Selecting v2 requires a TRACE_BUFFER_V2 target buffer and support from the producer and data source.
  • Instances that do not select v2 use v1 only if the connection permits it. If neither transport is available, writers discard their data.
  • If the producer cannot create or attach the ring buffer, selected instances discard their data and do not fall back to v1.

Fields§

§use_v2_probability_percent: Option<u32>

Percent of instances that use v2, from 0 (the default) to 100. The service rejects a nonzero use_v2_probability_percent and a ProtoVM data source on the same buffer.

§chunk_size_options: Vec<ChunkSizeOption>

The producer chooses one option at random, by weight, when it creates the ring buffer. With no option, or with all weights 0, it uses 256 bytes.

The first instance that selects v2 chooses the size for the connection, and the options of later instances have no effect.

§drain_occupancy_percent: Option<i32>

When the writers ask the service to drain the ring buffer. After each publication, a writer counts the ring buffer positions that wait for the reader, and asks for a drain when the count reaches:

  • 0 or absent: 25% of the positions.
  • 1 to 100: this percent of the positions, and at least one.
  • -1: one position, so it asks after every publication. Flushes and full ring buffers still ask for a drain at once. The service rejects other values.

As for chunk_size_options, the first instance that selects v2 sets it for the connection, and the values of later instances have no effect.
